Left vs Right Brain
Home > Left vs Right Brain
The picture below is a psychological model of the brain that shows the differences in function in the two hemispheres.
Left Brain
The left brain is the side that society has a tendency to reinforce. Ideally we should be logical, be good with words, and have an action plan in regard to life. It also is where management typically operates and the details of our experiences are stored. It has a focus on short-term gain, individual effectiveness, and order/control are left brain functions. You might also notice the fact that tension is a left brain outcome.
Right Brain
As you look left to right, you can see that the two hemispheres are basically polar opposite. The two sides see things differently. The right brain is the emotional/creative side. It sees pictures instead of words. Vision/mission and leadership operate on this side and it is able to see the big picture and see long-term in relation to goals. Instead of individual effectiveness, the right side has a group/team focus. Spontaneity vs being orderly and in control is the final difference. Unlike the left side that often results in tension, the right side is actually relaxed.
According to brain dominance theory, we have a tendency to have a dominant side in which we operate most of the time. It would actually be a huge advantage in life to have access to both sides at once. This whole brain state has been referred to as a state of “superlearning” by Bruce Lipton’s book The Biology of Belief. The subconscious blueprint process utilizes cross integration strategies to quickly help you change beliefs firmly implanted in the subconscious mind.
